Girl Child Education in Borno State

Alhaji Musa Kubo who is the Commissioner of Education in Borno State, made a pronouncement on Wednesday 9th of August 2017 during a press conference. He stated that the state government is in the process of initiating a cash transfer scheme that will encourage the enrolment of the girl child into schools.
The Commissioner in his speech stated that the proposed program is designed to make available financial assistance for the less privileged families of these young girls. The program is designed to be a grassroot one that will take place at the 27 Local government Councils in the State.
Borno State is a Northern state within Nigeria that has about 56,000 orphaned children as a result of Boko Haram insurgency.
Alhaji Kubo Emphasised in his speech said that the government is doing everything within their power to make sure that these children are back to school because of the societal challenges and to also ensure the increase of the girl child education.
During the press conference, the Commissioner also stated that over N 278 Million was spent on registering students who wrote the 2016 Senior School Examination Certificate (SSCE) and National Examination Commission (NECO) respectively. He also stated that about 70 Medical students, who are currently in their 3rd year are been sponsored by the state government to study abroad.
Kudos to the Borno State government on taking up this impressive initiative to make sure that the girl child education in the State is a reality putting into consideration the story of the 276 female students that were kidnapped from their schools in Chibok sometime in April 2014.
For this strategy to work in Borno State, the government needs to work hand in hand with the parents of these children. Proper sensitization needs to be done. The parents need to understand the advantages of educating the girl child.
I personally believe that educating the girl child will increase the knowledge of every woman on their role in the society and these will help in finding lasting solutions to the problem of development and social instability.
